AUBURN – Sharon Sue Patten passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2021, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, after declining health.

Sharon was born in Lancaster, Ohio, on March 9, 1947, the daughter of Kermit Neil Kennedy and Nadine May Miller Kennedy. She attended schools in Amanda, Ohio, and excelled academically, becoming a member of the National Honor Society her junior year. Her other interests included band and cheering activities. After high school she attended the Weaver Airline Personnel School where she graduated in airline communications in August 1965.

While working at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, she met her husband Ken Patten, whom she married on May 26, 1979. After marriage, she and Ken moved to Maine, where they resided in Winthrop, Maine until her passing. She worked in management in State government for 27 years, including 19 years in the State health insurance office as a manager. She then worked as the Assistant Director of Third Party Liability, DHHS MaineCare, for eight years, retiring in 2009.

Family and friends were very special to Sharon. Other interests included cooking, arts and crafts, and travel which included trips to Hawaii, Switzerland, Italy, France, and Alaska.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Kenneth E. Patten, son, Benjamin T. Patten, both of Winthrop, Maine; sister, Diane Kennedy Julian of Lancaster, Ohio; several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as several nieces and nephews.

At Sharon’s request, there will be no funeral services. Private arrangements will be made for committal. Donations may be made to MaineGeneral Hospice or Androscoggin Hospice House. Special thanks to members of both of these programs which provided wonderful care and support.
