BUXTON — The Maine Maple Producers Association recently announced that Maine Maple Fall Fest will be hosted on Oct. 9 and 10. This event is a continuation of the Maine Maple Producers Weekend held in October 2020. “After our fall event kick-off last year, we are again opening our sugar houses to the public for Maine Maple Fall Fest. You will see some of the same activities that would normally be part of a traditional Maine Maple Sunday, just adapted to a non-production time of the year.

Last year we were severely limited on gathering sizes by the State, so producers were forced to alter their events. This year producers are going to be working harder than ever to keep everyone safe while celebrating Maine Maple. Participating sugar houses can be located at mainemapleproducers.com,” said Scott Dunn, president of the MMPA, according to a news release from the association.

With the current COVID-19 situation, producers are adjusting events with safety in mind. This event will be hosted with the Maine Fall Foliage as the backdrop. Some producers will be hosting tours with explanations of maple syrup production from managing the woods, to tapping the trees and boiling sap.

“Every sugar house has something different to offer that is unique to them, with one constant, Maine maple producers share a tremendous passion for maple and love to share it. When making healthy lifestyle choices, maple is an easy option as it offers high amounts of zinc and manganese that boost the immune system and regulate carbohydrate and fat metabolism. It really is the healthier alternative when it comes to sweeteners,” said Dunn.

While there are still some that are hesitant to come out and be part of a crowd, producers have options for them too. Many of Maine’s maple producers are continuing with curbside pickup and delivery options. Last year saw many producers adding direct-to-consumer web sales that are continuing today with contactless pickup and shipping options.

The MMPA represents more than 190 licensed maple producers. Producers range from backyard hobby to large-scale bulk wholesale producers that serve nationwide accounts. Maine maple producers make more than 580,000 gallons annually as the third-largest maple-producing state in the country. More than 560 full-time and part-time jobs that generate over $17.3 million in wages are directly related to maple production.
