Jean Lawrence Paquet

WINSLOW – Jean Lawrence “Lawr” Paquet, 84, passed away Sept. 21, 2021 at Inland Hospital in Waterville. Lawrence was born June 6, 1937 in Winslow to Emile and Florence (Masse) Paquet. He attended Winslow schools and graduated from Winslow High School in 1955. He married Mary Jane Talbot of Waterville at the St. Francis de Sales church in Waterville on August 22, 1959. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. During his service, he was stationed at a number of Air Force bases across the country including Donaldson AFB, S.C., Limestone AFB, Maine and Dhahran AFB in Saudi Arabia. After his honorable discharge in 1959, the Paquet’s began their married life in East Hartford, Conn. In 1960 they returned to Winslow.

Most of Lawrence’s work involved work in plumbing and heating for Sears Roebuck and Company, F. G. Thomas and Sons and other local service trades. Over 20 years of practical experience prepared him for a highly successful sales career with W.W. Grainger in the U.S and Canada. He was recognized as top salesman on numerous occasions, earning awards, trips and the respect of his many customers.

He had many passions that he shared with his friends, children and grandchildren. Lawrence loved cooking, family genealogy, gardening, music, fishing and his Catholic faith. He also enjoyed trips to Canada to visit his many relatives and Winslow football. He was a lifelong Black Raider and could be seen parked outside the football field on any given Saturday afternoon.

His greatest joy was spending all day cooking for his family and friends. It could be a special occasion or just a Sunday dinner. He loved to invite friends and relatives to share meals. For him, it truly was “the more, the merrier”.

Jean Lawrence is survived by the love of his life of 62 years, Mary Jane (Talbot); children Charles of Winslow, Laurie Crane-Turton (Douglas) of Mechanic Falls, Kathryn Libby (Jay) of Cornville, Daniel (Danielle) of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Clint, Brock, Jon, Ryan, Justin, Emma-Jane and Maddison; and six great-grandchildren, Brody, Emily, Brennan, Katy, Jack and Charlotte. He is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews who fondly remember him as Uncle Lawr.

He is survived by one sister, Olivette Letourneau and one brother, David and wife Maryanne.

He was predeceased by his brothers Marcel, Leonel, Maurice, Clarence, Camille and sisters Dorianne, Mariette, Justine, Marilyn and Lizette.
