Josina C. Schalk

NEWPORT – Josina Schalk, 58, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 25, 2021. She was born Nov. 14, 1962 in Bangor, a daughter of Gary Schalk and Geraldine (Giles) Heath.

Josina will be remembered for her big heart, kind soul and famous hugs. She loved every person she ever met and never forgot to celebrate someone’s birthday with a card. She enjoyed time with family at camp, bowling, listening to music, karaoke, dancing, and going to the movies. Josina loved time with friends at Skills Dill Community Supports Center and participated yearly in the Special Olympics.

She is survived by her father, Gary Schalk and wife Paula of Michigan; two sisters, Terri and husband Allen Graves of Newport, and their children Courtney and Matthew; Mary Kay Smalley Michels of Tennessee and children Katie and Sandra; three brothers, William Schalk of Newport and son Thomas; Brett Schalk and wife Jennie of Michigan and children Katelynn and Olivia; and Charlie Fields of Palmyra; great-nieces and nephews Cadin, Maddox, Ashton, Avery and Skylar; three aunts, Cheryl Leach of Newport; Delores Giles of Bucksport, and her son Warren Giles; and Eileen Norwak of Michigan; an uncle, Tom and wife Phyllis Schalk of Michigan.

Josina was predeceased by her mother, Geraldine Heath and partner Vaughn Fields; brother, Gerald “Tink” Heath; uncles Rodney and Gerald Giles, and aunt, Karen LePard.

Family visitation will be private due to Covid. A public graveside funeral and committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Palmyra Village Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Woodbury officiating. Everyone is invited after the services to the Millennium Room, 416 Oxbow Rd., Palmyra. Arrangements are by Crosby and Neal, Newport.
