G. Norman Kelley

PITTSTON – G. Norman Kelley, 93, of Pittston, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, at the MaineGeneral Rehab and LTC at Glenridge, Comfort Care unit.

He was born in Pittston on Nov. 22, 1927, the son of Roy and Eva (Larrabee) Kelley.

His early schooling was in a one room schoolhouse near his home in Pittston. He graduated in 1945 from Gardiner Area High School, where he played football and was a member of the high school band. From there he joined the Army, serving in World War II as a member of the Army Band in Germany. When he got home, he started studying engineering at University of Maine at Orono, and later transferred to a technical school where he earned his degree.

Norman married Myrna (Fuller) Kelley on Nov. 24, 1949. They lived in the Farmington area for a few years. He then built his own home next door to his parents in Pittston where he lived the rest of his life. He worked as a surveyor on I-95 in the Bangor area. He also worked for Morang’s TV Repair in Randolph before starting his own TV repair business. In his later years, he went to work in the Bath Iron Works electrical calibration lab which he retired from.

Norman enjoyed attending harness races, auctions and his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. In his later years, he and Myrna enjoyed going out to eat especially on the coast. Norman enjoyed nothing more than a plate of fresh fried scallops and had his last scallops just two days before his passing. Time with family: sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, kids and grandkids was especially cherished by Norman. Norman earned the nicknames “Normpa” and “Grandpa the Great”.

Norman was predeceased by his parents Roy and Eva Kelley; wife, Myrna; brothers Fred (wife Jean), Eugene, Owen (wife Mary) and sister, Arlene (husband Wayne Buker); as well as several nieces and nephews.
