Bailey Public Library Adult Services Librarian Nick Perry and Youth Services Librarian Stacy Tomassone plan a journey into the past, hosted by Winthrop Maine Historical Society, at noon Saturday, Oct. 9.

Attendees can learn about the first settlers who came to Winthrop, a Revolutionary War hero and a Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, as Perry and Tomassone lead a tour through Maple Cemetery on Main Street.

Suitable for all ages, the tour will stop at grave sites to discuss some of the area’s ancestors and tell their stories.

Those who plan to attend should meet at 11:45 p.m. at the entrance to the cemetery located next to 99 Main St. The walk will start promptly at noon.

Anna Carll will provide a demonstration on the process of cleaning and repairing a stone in need of repair immediately following the cemetery tour.

Carll, who has spent years cleaning and repairing gravestones as a sexton and a member of the Maine Old Cemetery Association, has chosen to clean the stone of a war veteran.
