WATERVILLE — The driver of a vehicle that hit a tree and broke two telephone poles Monday morning on Mayflower Hill Drive, knocking out power to the area, apparently was fatigued before the crash, according to police.

Kevin O’Boy, 20, of Brookline, Massachusetts, was driving a 2013 Lexus sport utility vehicle west on Mayflower Hill toward Colby College at 8:49 a.m. when it struck the tree and poles near Pray Avenue, Sgt. Scott Dumas said Tuesday.

He said O’Boy told police he had been up late the night before and had to get up early and was tired at the time of the crash. O’Boy was not injured, he said.

“The vehicle had some serious damage,” Dumas said.

Police, firefighters and Central Maine Power Co. responded to the scene, where the road had to be closed for about an hour, according to Dumas. The telephone poles were replaced, he said.
