Arnold Philip Goranson

FARMINGDALE – Arnold Philip Goranson died Oct. 2, 2021, peacefully at The Captain Lewis Residence, age of 93. Arnold was born in Caribou, Maine, Feb. 6, 1928. The son of John and Ellen (Pearson) Goranson. He was one of 4 children and the last living survivor. Arnold grew up on the family farm in Jemtland, Maine that his father who immigrated from Sweden had settled. He graduated from Caribou High School.He Is survived by his loving wife Geraldine (Rossignol) of 66 years. Together they raised three children: sons Stephen and Jeffrey and a daughter Sharon.Arnold was a potato farmer for many years before he started working for The State of Maine as a produce inspector and a field man for the Birds Eye Corp. in Caribou, Maine area. Arnold and family relocated to the Gardiner- Augusta area in 1970 and he continued to work for State of Maine as a poultry inspector. After retiring in 1980 he drove school bus for the Augusta and Gardiner schools until 1998. Arnold and his wife Geri spent many winters in Florida after his retiring. They did travel to Sweden to his father’s birthplace with his sister Elna and brother-in-law John Sodergren. There they met relatives of their father whom had not immigrated to the New Sweden area. Another trip of a lifetime was going to Alaska and visiting his nephews, Glen and Graydon Sodergren and their families. He was an active member in the Stockholm Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and participated in developing the Christian Service Brigade and Stockade of the Stockholm and New Sweden area. Dad had a strong faith in His Lord Jesus Christ. After moving to Gardiner, he became a member of the Winter Street Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon for many years. Arnold was an avid Red Sox fan and loved sports especially watching his son Jeffrey and his grandchildren playing various sports. He loved hunting, fishing, and skiing in his younger years. He is loved by his son Stephen and partner Steven Chandler, his daughter Sharon Roy and husband Colin, son Jeffrey and his wife, Catherine (Mahaney) Goranson.He adored his four grandchildren and their spouses: Kris and wife Alicia, Kristina Marcotte and husband Zak, Erik Goranson and Hillary Goranson. Plus, his two great grandchildren; Connor Goranson and Avery Marcotte.He is also survived by sisters-in-law Karin Goranson and Eleanor Sodergren, Richard and Lucille Rossignol, Joanna Hamilton, and Danny Rossignol. A daughter in law Marianne Larsen Goranson. Plus loved by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.Arnold was predeceased by his parents John and Ellen (Pearson), his brothers Calvin, Everett, and sister Elna (Goranson) Sodergren, Brother-in-law-John Sodergren and sister-in-law Geneva (Rossignol) Goranson.There will be no visiting hours.
