Matthew Richard Moran

HARTLAND – Matthew Richard Moran, 40, of Hartland, left this world on Sept. 29, 2021. He was born Nov. 26, 1980 in Waterville, Maine, the cherished only son of Nancy (VerHey) Moran and Richard Moran Jr. Matt attended school in Hartland and St. Albans and was a 1999 graduate of Nokomis Regional High School in Newport. He later attended Southern Maine Community College.Fortunate to be from two large families, Matt grew up surrounded by many close cousins, aunts, and uncles. His easy-going nature made it easy for him to make friends throughout his life. He was charismatic, outgoing and willing to help anyone who asked. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, camping trips to Omaha Beach, metal concerts, cake and his own jokes. Most of all, he enjoyed being with people- new friends, old friends, and family. Matt was a skilled carpenter and held many jobs over the years. On any car ride, he was quick to point out the many houses, roofs and decks he helped build along the way. As his former bosses know, Matt was sure he knew the best way to do everything. In 2005, he became a father when his daughter, Alexis Jaya Moran, was born. Matt was thrilled to have a new playmate. As she grew, Lexi would follow him around, helping with projects, asking questions and being goofballs together. There were tickle wars and countless snuggles. They attended all of family birthday parties with the cousins, where “Uncle Matt” always served as the human jungle gym for all of the kids. Lexi and Matt never missed a single Father-Daughter Dance at school. Matt leaves behind his pride and joy, Lexi Moran, and her mother, Brianna Horan, both of Fairfield as well as his mother, Nancy, of St. Albans and his father, Richard, of Hartland. He is also mourned by Kevin Small, his best friend and cousin, who was more like a brother. They shared an inseparable bond their whole lives. Matt is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and life-long friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents.Matt did not accomplish all of his goals in this life. He lost his way. But this never tarnished his heart of gold or his loving spirit. To honor Matt’s legacy, seek out your own true potential and make it happen. For those who would like to pay their respects, a celebration of Matt’s life will be held on Saturday, October 16, from 1-3 p.m., in Manson Park in Pittsfield. Please bring your memories to share and a chair if you wish. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Crosby & Neal of Newport. Burial will be private at Pine Grove Cemetery in Hartland.
