The Augusta Country Club in Manchester held its annual ACC Cares Tournament on Aug. 12.

Longtime ACC member and founding sponsor of the event, Charlie Shuman, hit the ceremonial first drive to send off the field of 124 players.

Because of the many sponsors, the organizers presented a check for $25,300 to representatives from the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care. As in 2020, this donation will go directly into the “Patient Needs Endowment Fund,” which helps patients with unexpected costs during their treatment time.

According to Sarah Kalagher, director of philanthropy for MaineGeneral, “Patient needs have been more prevalent than ever during the pandemic,” Sarah Kalagher, director of philanthropy for MaineGeneral, said in a news release from the Augusta Country Club. “Patients navigating a cancer diagnosis have enough on their plate; they shouldn’t have to worry about basic needs such as transportation and food. The ACC Cares Tournament helps us meet these unmet needs, ensuring our patients can be wholly focused on their treatment and becoming well. We are so grateful for their support.”
