I am writing this letter as a small-business owner here in Augusta. Although for the most part, I think the staff at city hall does a great job and they have always been great to work with. But there is one area I think could use some work. As a small business, I cannot agree that this city is business friendly.

As a small business, I have run into a few roadblocks in how I can develop my property. It is located on a major highway in and out of the city yet the zoning allows me little to no growth option. I know some of the other business located in the same section of road probably feel the same way I do. I do think it is important to keep our major entry’s into the city looking good, but I think adding some flexibility to allow for growth would be much more business friendly.

Without getting into more details I would like to say that I am in great hopes that our new mayor will be more helpful in streamlining the cumbersome processes that effect our business here in Augusta. Small businesses are the backbone to any small city; that is why I will be supporting Mark O’Brien for mayor. I think Mark’s involvement in our city and being a lifelong resident makes he well suited for the job. Not to mention he supports small businesses and know how important they are to our community.

But most important, I have known Mark since I was a child and he is a good, honest and fair man. A rare quality for a politician today!
