Ronald C. Kniffin

MADISON – Ronald Kniffin, 78, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2021 with his family by his side after a long battle with bladder cancer.

Ron is survived by his wife and soulmate, Phyllis, of 60 years; children Cindy Gilcott, of Norridgewock, Dale Kniffin and wife Sarah of Virginia and Rick Kniffin of Strong; grandchildren Danielle Turner and husband Dennis, Shelby Bolstridge and husband Matt, Dr. Dustin Kniffin, Katelyn Kniffin, Alex Kniffin and wife Morganne, and Alyssa Kniffin; great-grandchildren Lincoln Turner, Reece Turner, Gabriel Turner and Embree Bolstridge. Also survived by sister, Donna Bishop and husband Michael.

Predeceased by mother, Delia (Dumont) Vicnere, father, Chester Kniffin; and special uncle, John Dumont.

Ron was a member of the Army National Guard and a Legionnaire.

He and Phyllis ran the family business, Kniffin’s Meat Market, for over 30 years, serving several generations of loyal customers. He later worked for Kennebec Lumber as a sales rep during retirement.

When Ron wasn’t at the meat cutting board, he was out fetching cattle and hogs from small family farms throughout Central Maine.

Ron was fondly known by many Embden Pond folks who could recognize the sound of his “beep beep” horn as he sped by in his red and white Corson boat. Ron and Phyllis enjoyed lots of fun times four-wheeling, camping and traveling with great friends (especially Darren and Bertha).

Ron will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and quick wit. He was fiercely loyal to his family; an enthusiastic cheerleader who made them feel loved and important.

The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful Hospice nurses who made it possible to carry out Ron’s wishes to stay home during his journey. He was a tenacious warrior, never willing to give up the fight.

There will be no public funeral services.

In Ron’s honor, remember to “have fun, be good and be careful.”
