It was with a great degree of sadness that I read Emily Duggan article in Sunday’s newspaper, “School nurses report an uptick in angry parents and school districts have had to step in.”

I must ask myself , “What have we become as a society?” The story outlines the way some folks are heaping abuse on our school nurses. I have seen firsthand the caring, professionalism of these nurses. They are our neighbors and friends, who are helping to care for the children in our community during this difficult time. Instead of thanking them, they have become objects of cruel comments.

I would like to say, “Thank you for doing your job and caring for the kids!”

It is a sad commentary on our society that there are those who can only criticize by making hurtful comments that are so personal. We can feel strongly about issues without being vindictive and hateful.

I wish to give our school nurses a high-five salute — and say this is one grandfather who is glad you are with and for our children!
