As if the Democrats did not have enough problems getting much needed legislation passed — with legislation that a large majority of the American public is in favor of running into lock-step opposition by the Republicans — we have Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema insisting on bipartisanship with Republicans, led by the master of obstruction, Mitch McConnell.
This stand is at best naïve and more likely cynical. To make matters worse Manchin seems to think the filibuster is somehow sacrosanct, not to be touched, while Sinema gives smart-aleck responses to reporters’ questions, telling us nothing about where she stands on issues.
Manchin and Sinema are described as moderate Democrats. While many are left to wonder where their true loyalties belong, I am reminded of the old saying: With friends like these, who needs enemies?
