FT. MYERS, Fla. – Peter Joseph Gorman passed away peacefully in his home in Fort Myers, Fla. on August 18, 2021 with his wife Roxana by his side. He was born on April 22, 1928 in Boston, Mass. to Francis and Ruth Gorman.In 1946 he graduated from Milton High School and enlisted in the Marine Corp in which he served in WWII from 1946 through 1948 and the Korean War from 1950 through 1952. He attended Stonehill College majoring in Business Administration. He worked for New England Telephone Co. for 27 years and after retiring worked for Unity Telephone Company as General Manager developing Unity Cellular Company in Maine. Later he worked for Marseilles Cellular as a Consultant. After moving to Florida, he spent time in sales until he was 83.Peter loved life and believed in giving back to the Community. He loved hockey and coached Youth Hockey League from 1965-1978 in Waterville, ME. He served as Examiner of Maine Management Cost Survey, Commissioner of Waterville Sewerage District and Trustee of Kennebec Sewerage District. From 1969 through 1985 he was a member of the City Council serving 2 terms as Chairman. Peter was appointed by Gov Ken Curtis as Commissioner of the Maine State Lottery in 1974 serving through 1988. In 1986 he became Commissioner for the Tri State Megabucks representing Maine.He is survived by his wife, Roxana Murphy Gorman; his seven children, Kevin Gorman and his wife LouAnn of Waterville, Stephen Gorman and his husband Richard Cytowic of Washington, DC, Gary Gorman and his wife Patty Gorman of Oakland, Janet Gorman of Augusta, Joanne Gorman and her partner John Hernandez of South Burlington, Vt., Gail Gorman and her husband Paul Chen of Belmont, Mass. and Claire Sasner and her husband Mike Sasner of Bar Harbor; and his step daughter Celon Murphy of Ft. Myers and stepson Angus Murphy of Fort Myers. He maintained a loving relationship with his sister Katherine Gorman Kent of Hingham, Massachusetts, who stood by her brother through thick and thin.He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Nathan Gorman, Ryan Gorman, Meaghan Reimer, Tiffany Gorman-Robaina, Jared Poulin, Lauren Dempsey, Christopher Domingue, Allie Sasner, Jack Sasner, Sophie Chen, Henry Chen, Gavin Murphy and Landon Howard; and 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, Gwenna, Sam, Marlena, Arianna, Chase, Declan, Fiona and Avery. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Francis (Bud) Gorman and Thomas Gorman and his sister Ruth Marie Donoghue and his former wife, Patricia Collins Gorman. A gathering for Peter will be scheduled at a later date.
