CONCORD – Ellingford Leroy Messer, 84, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Oct. 14, 2014 at Maplecrest Rehab. & Living Center in Madison. He was born April 24, 1937 in Moscow to Basil and Myrtle (Brown) Messer.

Known as “Buggy” by family and friends, he grew up in Moscow where he developed his love of the wilderness. On Feb. 25, 1956 he married Priscilla J. Hartwell. Buggy worked many years in the woods for Harry H. Melcher and Sons Logging. He loved camping in the summer with his wife and boys especially at Lake Austin. Buggy also loved collecting knives and guns, 4 wheeling, hunting and fishing.

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Priscilla J. Messer; sons, Michael and James Messer; granddaughter, Andrea Messer; daughter-in-law Judy Messer; sister, Edna Collins, brothers, Edward, Dennis, Eric and Garfield Messer. He is survived by his sons, Ricky Messer of Jackman, and Charles Messer and wife Tammy of Moscow, daughter-in- law, Danette Messer of Moscow; his grandchildren, Susan (Messer) Davis and husband Shane, Tiffany (Messer) Hanf and husband Andy, Diedra Messer, and Daniel Messer; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Matthew Davis, Benjamin and Lilliana Hanf, and Owen Michael Morgan; sister Cathy Cates, brothers, William Messer and wife Betty, Leonard Messer and Terry Messer and sister-in-law Roberta Carter and husband Craig.

A graveside committal for Buggy, Priscilla and Jimmy will be held 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Cassidy Cemetery in Concord officiated by friend of the family, Herbert Murphy.
