Edna E. Doyon

AUGUSTA – Edna E. Doyon, 84, formerly of Belgrade, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, at the MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Glenridge following a long illness. She was born in Augusta on Jan. 29, 1937, a daughter of the late Henry and Alida (Veilleux) Bechard.

Mrs. Doyon was a graduate of Cony High School and was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She had been employed for many years at Frank X. Pomerleau Home Furnishing, retiring as the General Manager. She then worked for Gagne and Sons for several years.

Mrs. Doyon was a former member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the North Augusta Trailblazers, where she was a past President. She was also a member of the Calumet Club, serving on several committees including co-chairing the Festival de le Bastille.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nelson L. Doyon; her siblings, Aime and Roger Bechard, Lorraine Danforth and Christine Dupuis; a son-in-law, Gary Cummings and several in-laws.

Mrs. Doyon is survived by her two daughters, Margaret B. “Peggy” Cummings and her partner Tony Loiko of Augusta and Cathy A. Turgeon and her husband Raymond of Sidney; five grandchildren, Trisha Watson and her husband Toby, Kayla Tully and her husband Josh, Kari Turgeon, Eric Cummings and Brandon Cummings and his wife Christine; six great-grandchildren, Devin, Landon, Skyler, Bryce, Carver and Estelle “Stella”; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Woodlands in Hallowell and the Cove at Glenridge for the care and compassion they showed to Edna and the family during her time in their care. And a special thanks to Jackie Blaisdell who helped care for her at home and a very special thank you to Jen Costa who, not only lived and took care of her, but continues to take care of her cat, “Skipper”.

Relatives and friends may visit on Monday, Oct. 25 from 4-7 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.
