Beatrice Corbin

AUGUSTA – Beatrice Corbin, 90, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at Maine Veterans’ Home. She was born Beatrice Dubay on April 6, 1931, in Ashland, ME a daughter of the late Lewis and May E. (Thibodeau) Dubay.

Bea grew up in Sheridan, Maine. She married the love of her life, Clarence Corbin and raised five children in their home in Sheridan. By family lore, Bea and her children picked 100 barrels of potatoes a day. She and her husband were well known in The County for their hard work and raised the first five of their seven children without the luxury of running water. The family moved to Hartford, Conn., in the 1960s for more opportunities. Bea and Clarence bought a house in Enfield, Conn. Bea liked to joke that they paid one dollar down. Their family grew by two more and they spent many happy years in their house before returning home to Maine in retirement.

At 90, Bea was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was the master of all things thrift and was known to be able to stretch a dollar a mile. Bea’s famous fruit salad will be missed at family gatherings, but not as much as her uproarious sense of humor and infectious laugh. Bea was not one to hold back when something needed saying and was known for her sound advice. Bea passed on her resilience and strength of character to her family, of which they are forever thankful.

Mrs. Beatrice Corbin was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Corbin; her sons, Clarence A. (Peanuts) Corbin and Mark A. Corbin; her sisters, Geneva D. (Dubay) Prue Donnelly, Gladys Dubay, and Pauline Dubay; her brothers, Edward Dubay, Lewis Dubay, Jr, and Frederick Dubay; and her granddaughter, Melanie Hope Gamage.

She is survived by two sisters, Geraldine Michaud and Lucy Dubay; five of her children, Linda Elster and husband Thomas of Shrewsbury, Mass., Wallace C. Corbin and wife Kathleen of Augusta; Darline Nettles and husband Ronald of Albion; Pamela Jalonen and husband Michael of Somers, Conn.; and Chery Corbin Rau and husband Michael of Enfield, Conn.; her grandchildren: Michael Elster, Robert Elster, Heather L. Ryan, Trisha L. Corbin, Laura Bastey Locsin, Megan M. Bastey, Christopher A. Gamage, Melanie H. Gamage, Daniel Corbin, Philip A. Bologna; her 17 great-grandchildren; her great great granddaughter; and her many nieces and nephews and friends.
