WATERVILLE — The Planning Board is scheduled to review plans Tuesday night for a proposed 5,000-square-foot classroom addition to George J. Mitchell School.

Officials with Waterville Public Schools are proposing the addition to the elementary school at 58 Drummond Ave. to provide students with more space because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at The Elm at 21 College Ave.

City Planner Ann Beverage said the proposal is to build the addition between the kindergarten wing of the school and Educare Central Maine, which is connected to the school by a walkway.

Plans call for the board to get a first look Tuesday at the preliminary proposal for the expansion, but not to take action. The developer must notify abutters before the meeting at which the board would consider a site plan for the project, according to Beverage.

The board is also expected Tuesday to continue discussions on proposed ordinances intended to help protect historic buildings and other locations in Waterville.
