Donald J. Albert

AUGUSTA – Donald J. Albert, 64, passed away Oct. 25, 2021 at Alfond Center for Health at MaineGeneral. He was born Sept. 23, 1957, a son of Joseph Norman and Yolande (Levesque) Albert.

Don grew up in Madawaska, graduating from Madawaska High School in the class of 1975. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Maine at Orono. Following graduation, he was briefly employed with the Augusta Water Department before beginning his career as a civil engineer for the State of Maine at the Department of Environmental Protection for many years.

Don had a wide variety of interests, particularly when it came to spending time in the company of others. He enjoyed playing guitar, going out to eat, skiing, petanque, long walks, playing bridge (particularly at the Cohen Center), and was instrumental in the “Men’s Club” organization. A parishioner of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus, Eurcharistic Minister, and member of the church choir. Don was a man of incredible faith and participated in reciting the rosary every Monday evening.

Above all, Don was a dedicated family man. He was so proud of his daughter Kristi, and adored his three grandchildren, Hannah, Trinity, and Dominic. Don always protected his younger sisters, and has been a dedicated son to his parents. He never missed a family event. A quiet man with a listening ear, Don was a patient and kind soul who will be remembered for his generous heart and love for his family.

Don was predeceased by his father, Joseph Norman Albert.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristi McKenzie and her husband Caleb; grandchildren, Hannah, Trinity, and Dominic McKenzie; mother, Yolande Albert; sisters Carol Wallace and her husband Leonard Wallace IV, Janet Dagneau and her husband Roland Dagneau, and Nancy Corigliano and her husband Dr. Joseph Corigliano; many nieces and nephews; as well as close friends, Jim and Kay Rogers.

A period of visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 31, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. The family respectfully request that unvaccinated attendees wear masks, and recommend the same for vaccinated individuals. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, 41 Western Ave., Augusta.
