PORTLAND — The Diocese of Portland plans to send a delegation of youth and their chaperones to the World Youth Day celebration in Lisbon, Portugal, to be held Aug 1-5, 2023.

A virtual information meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, to introduce the pilgrimage and go over preliminary details for the trip.

All youth and adults interested in possibly going to World Youth Day can sign up for the meeting at register.gotowebinar.com/register/804646117489299728.

Since its first edition in Rome in 1986, World Youth Day has proven to be a laboratory of faith, a place of birth for vocations to marriage and consecrated life, and an instrument for the evangelization and transformation of the church, according to a news release from the diocese.

Attended by the Pope, it is a celebration of youth and an expression of the universal Church.

World Youth Day also seeks to promote peace, unity, and fraternity among peoples and nations around the world.
