Jeanne Gilbert MacFarland

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. –

Jeanne Gilbert MacFarland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, just two days after her 75th birthday. Jeanne was born in Augusta, Maine on October 11, 1946 to the late Sylvio Joseph Gilbert and Jacqueline (Pelletier) Gilbert of Augusta.

Jeanne attended Saint Augustine School in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School.

Jeanne and Walter met while skating when they were 13 and 14. She thought he was the best dancer in school, and he thought she was the prettiest girl in the room. Their story is one for the books.

Jeanne was a babysitter to many when her children were young. She worked part-time at Mister Market in Winthrop where she and Walter made their home with their children. She started her career in banking as a teller for Maine Savings Bank, then Fleet Bank and finally finished her career in Private Banking with Bank of America. She loved her clients, co-workers and was well respected in her field. She enjoyed working with her colleague and friend Kevin at Bank of America, and together they won the Premier Banking & Investment Partnership Award in 2006.

After retirement, Jeanne and Walter spent summers at the lake in Winthrop and winters in Delray Beach, Florida. Jeanne loved spending time on the water, long talks over coffee, the annual Cousin’s Luncheon, live music and dancing with her best friend, Walter. Jeanne loved ABBA, Tina Turner and Neil Diamond. She was an avid reader and loved to share books with friends. She enjoyed playing cards, peanut butter ice cream and a good cheeseburger. Jeanne’s smile could light up a room and she loved to laugh.

Jeanne is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Walter; son, Michael and his wife Laurel of Mount Vernon,; daughter, Kelly and her husband Eric of Natick, Mass.; beloved grandchildren, Morgan, Taite, Michael, Blaike and Brodie; as well as many cousins, family and friends.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, 2–4 and 6–8 p.m., at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, Maine. A private ceremony will be held the following day at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
