Peggy Antz Albert

GARDINER – Peggy Antz Albert, 63, passed away on Nov. 5, 2021 after struggling with Alzheimer’s Disease for many years. She was born on July 18, 1958, the daughter of Patricia (Damon) and Edwin W. Antz Jr.She grew up in Gardiner and was a graduate of Gardiner Area High School in the class of 1976. Peggy then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in math from the University of Maine at Orono. Following graduation, she was employed for short time as a nutritionist at a hospital in Presque Isle. Peggy spent the majority of her career working for the State of Maine as a nutritionist in the Departments of Education and Health and Human Services. Before becoming disabled with Alzheimers Disease, she was most recently employed in the Radon Program again with the State of Maine.Peggy wore many hats throughout her life including daughter, sister, coach, and friend, but her favorite titles were Mom to her daughter Kristi, and later, “Nene” to her adored grandchildren. Peggy’s commitment to her family was unmatched; a completely devoted supporter of Kristi’s sports, she never missed one of her games. Together, they traveled to 33 states, as well as Italy, where Peggy cheered on her best friend from the sideline. Peggy also was instrumental in the upbringing of two of her nieces, Lindsay and Leah, as well as the primary care person for both her beloved parents when they grew old.The Christmas season was Peggy’s favorite time of year; she enjoyed buying gifts for all and was generous to a fault. Some of her favorite past times included making crafts, making Christmas candy, family gatherings around the holidays, and visiting relatives in Vermont. Peggy will be remembered as a fun, compassionate, and kind soul with a big heart. Peggy was predeceased by her parents, as well as her siblings, Penny Bynum and Edwin Antz III.She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Kristi McKenzie and her husband, Caleb, along with their three children, Hannah, Trinity, and Dominic; her brother, Edgar Antz and his wife Ann, and their three children, Tim, Thomas, and Heather; a sister, Pam Gatcomb and her children, Lance, Ricky, and Tricie; along with nieces, Leah, Lindsay, and nephews Myles, Graham, and Eric.A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 beginning at 12 noon at the Augusta Elk’s Lodge, 397 Civic Center Dr., in Augusta where a light luncheon will be offered.
