An Athens woman suffered serious injury early Saturday when the car she was driving on U.S. Route 201 in Madison left the roadway and rolled over, according to a Somerset County Sheriff’s official.

Michael Mitchell, chief deputy of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, said Saturday night that Mia J. Braley, 21, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Impala southbound on U.S. Route 201, also known as the Lakewood Road, just after 5 a.m. Saturday when the car went off the right side of the road and rolled over.

“She was not wearing a seat belt,” he said. “She had to be extricated from the car by the Madison Fire Department.”

Mitchell said Braley, who was alone in the car, was taken by EMS to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan with a serious injury to her right leg.

“It’s under investigation right now,” Mitchell said just after 7 p.m. Saturday. “A blood test was taken at the hospital.”

The crash, which occurred about a mile north of the Lakewood Golf Course, was reported at 5:21 a.m. and Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Lyman arrived at the crash scene at 5:54 a.m., Mitchell said. Lyman was assisted by Somerset Sgt. Ritchie Putnam, according to Mitchell.

Officials believe Braley was coming from a home in Bingham when the crash occurred and may have been heading home to Athens, he said.

The Impala she was driving was destroyed in the crash and was towed from the scene by Charlie & Sons, he said.

No charges were filed Saturday, according to Mitchell.
