Edward and Dorothy Bonenfant

WINTERPORT – Ed Bonenfant passed away Oct. 26 2021. Dottie passed away Nov. 8 2021.

Ed was born July 27, 1932. Dottie was born Oct. 2 1932. They both grew up in Augusta and were high school sweet hearts. Shortly after high school, they married and remained married for the next 71 years.

Ed joined the Navy right out of high school and was a corpsman in the Korean War. Upon leaving the Navy he had a career of helping people as a social worker for BMHI and the counseling center. Later in life he became a businessman, co-owned and operated Bradbury Manor nursing home in Belfast.

Dottie worked as a medical lab technician and then became a stay-at-home Mom raising her five children. While raising her kids, she returned to college and finished her degree at the University of Maine and worked for the University’s chancellor’s office. After the Navy Ed graduated from UMO and then Attended Boston College.

Ed and Dottie traveled the United States extensively and spent their winters in Tucson, Ariz. for over 20 years. Ed loved to cook and brew beer. Dottie loved to read and do her crossword puzzles. They both loved to play cards with others and socialize. They were both active in the democratic party, volunteered counting votes and delivered meals-on-wheels. Both were parishioners at St Mathew and St Gabriel’s catholic churches.

Ed is survived by his brother Richard Bonenfant and his wife Dotty. Dottie is survived by her sisters Dianne Berube and Donna Huckins. Ed and Dottie were predeceased by their son, Brian and their daughter, Kim Bonenfant. They are survived by their children, Lynn Ryan and her husband Richard, Julie Bonenfant and her husband Phil Trotter, and their son Edward Jr.; grandchildren Megan and Molly Ryan, Ted and Sarah Bonenfant; and eight nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St Mary’s Church in Bangor Maine Dec. 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. In person attendees are required to wear a mask. The service will be live-streamed on the St. Mary’s website.

A Celebration of life will be held in the spring.
