Stephen E. Goodwin

RICHMOND – Stephen E. Goodwin, 77, of Plummer Road, died Nov. 21, 2021, at Togus VA Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Gardiner on Nov. 8, 1944, the son of Roger E. Goodwin and Elnor L. (Johnson) Goodwin.He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1962 and the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management in 1973, leading to a career in agricultural sales and consulting that lasted more than 35 years. He held a deep love for his country and served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1970.Steve’s passion for agriculture framed his life, and his heart was deeply rooted in the land and people of Maine. He was an avid fisherman and a true outdoorsman. He had a sonorous singing voice and was known as a gifted storyteller with a quick wit and a wicked sense of humor.His family takes comfort in his deep and abiding faith in God and in his church family at Kennebec Valley Assembly of God, in Chelsea. He was also a member of the Litchfield American Legion Post.Steve’s zeal for life was palpable, and he never met a stranger.Steve is survived by his wife, Jane (Dorr) Goodwin of Richmond; daughters, Stephanie Goodwin and Rebecca Goodwin of Greenville, N.C., and son Samuel Goodwin of Colorado Springs, Colo. Stepchildren include Chris (Stephanie) Bailey of Joplin, Mo., Ryan (Donna) Bailey of Roopville, Ga., Andy (Julie) Bailey of Warner Robins, Ga., and Bob (Rachel) Jenkins of Summerville, S.C. His grandchildren are Stephen Johnson, Teagan Goodwin, Wyatt Russell, Josie Russell, Gwyn Goodwin, and Gracie Goodwin. Stepgrandchildren include Bethanie Bailey, Savanna Bailey, Charley Bailey, Gabby Bailey, and Russell Jenkins. Siblings are Victor Goodwin, Elaine Goodwin, Betty (Jim) Collett, and Ellen (Steve) Torrey. Other survivors include a very special nephew Scott Goodwin, close cousin Ronnie Dodge and many dearly loved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Seth Goodwin, brother Tom (Jean) Goodwin, and sister Eloise Goodwin.Family and friends may visit on Saturday Nov. 27, 2021 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday Nov. 28, 2021 at Kennebec Valley Assembly of God, 44 Hallowell Rd., Chelsea, Maine with reception to follow. Committal with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine.
