AUGUSTA – Beverly Mae Leighton, 82, of Augusta, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family on Nov. 22, 2021.

She worked for the State of Maine for 33 years, finishing her career at the Department of Human Services, Support Enforcement.

She married her husband, David Leighton, on July 3, 1999. She loved her family and enjoyed spending every moment possible with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed many great times with the lunch bunch. She loved to crochet and knit and made many wonderful gifts for family and friends over the years. Everyone who met her, met a friend. She was a long time active member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Farmingdale and loved all of her church family.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Joan Pare and Elaine Newcombe; her grandson, Joshua O’Connell.

She is survived by her husband, David; her brother, Jerry Sumner and wife Pearl, her sister-in-law, Linda Parker; her children Tina Lander, Phil White Jr. and wife Donna, Julie O’Connell and husband Steven, Craig White and wife Sue, Peggy White and wife Susan Sawyer; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several cousins, including special cousin, Barbara Boynton; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. Burial will be in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner. Arrangements are by Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the funeral home website familyfirstfuneralhomes.com.
