Gerald E. Maxim

AUGUSTA – Gerald E. Maxim, 78, of Augusta passed away peacefully at his home on Nov. 22, 2021 with his loving wife Elaine by his side following a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 14, 1943 to Clarence and Helena Maxim of Gardiner. He was a graduate of Gardiner High School.Gerry retired from L.L. Bean after 21 years of service and was voted “Bean’s Best” in 2001. Gerry was a devoted antique dealer and yard sale enthusiast throughout his life. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening as well as, providing nourishment to all the yard critters, great and small. He was known as a kind, generous soul always willing to help others wherever and whenever he could. He will be remembered fondly by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.He was predeceased by his beloved son Daryle Allen Maxim.Gerry is survived by his devoted wife Elaine Maxim of 21 years; his children, Tammy Dean and husband Kevin, his son Craig Maxim and wife Julie and son Jason Maxim; his grandchildren, Jessica Fortin and husband John, Dalton Dean, Casey Dean, Samantha Maxim and Brandy Crossdale; great-granddaughter Layla; and his remaining sister Debbie Poulin.Gerry is also survived by his stepson Shawn Hoyle and wife Nicola; as well as grandchildren, Cassandra Hoyle, Selena Hoyle, Zachariah Hoyle and wife Haley, and Clayton Hoyle.Gerry was additionally survived by friend and nephew Wes Sproul, nephew Dewey Sproul and wife Amanda and their daughter Teanna Woodman and husband Zackary; as well as devoted ball-catcher and snack-mate “Romeo”.The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Kumar of the Alfond Cancer Center and staff for their kindness and help throughout his battle and a gratitude of thanks to the hospice staff during our time of need.A private graveside memorial service will be held in the spring for family at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner.
