In addition to his career, Steve served for many years as a volunteer fireman and every briefly as the fire chief of the Hallowell Fire Department. He and Kay enjoyed vacationing annually at their time share in St. Maartens, where they became involved in community service, and made lifelong friends. Steve and Kay were active members of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
