ALBURGH, Vt. — Two men are dead and a third injured in a shooting in the town of Alburgh that followed an escalating dispute over access to a property for hunting, the Vermont State Police said Sunday.

The dispute had been building for about a week, State Police Capt. Scott Dunlap said during a Sunday news conference in Alburgh.

“It seems like it reached a boiling point last night,” Dunlap said.

The shooting, which was reported just before 10 p.m. Friday, took place outside the home of one of the people involved.

U.S. Border Patrol agents were the first to arrive.

Later Sunday state police identified the two men who died as David Mohamed, 51, and Larry P. Cameron, 41, both of Alburgh.

The injured man was identified as Devin Cameron, 27, also of Alburgh. Cameron was reported to be in critical but stable condition.

Police have not released the identities of the people involved, but said there’s no ongoing threat to public safety and everyone involved has been accounted for.

Police described the three men as friends.

Autopsies will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Vermont State Police investigation involves members of the Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team, Victim Services Unit and troopers from the Field Force Division.

State police are also working with Grand Isle County State’s Attorney Doug DiSabito.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the state police.
