In the big scope of worldly problems, I am blessed to not have many. In the last two months, however, my mailbox has been struck and destroyed twice by passing vehicles. It is of very sturdy construction; an iron street sign pole with our family name sign attached atop it and set two-plus feet in the ground. It has an iron swinging arm attached with a metal and wood platform, which a decorative mailbox is bolted to.
The first time just the mailbox was torn from the platform and destroyed. On a recent morning, everything was severed, leaving just a few inches of the iron pipe above ground level and debris spread over a large area along with vehicle glass and trim parts.
Couldn’t you just have left a note to acknowledge what had happened? Maybe an offer to at least help us with the work of replacing it? Would some form of human decency or responsibility or maybe just some basic kindness been too much to demonstrate? Apparently, it is.
