What do you think should be done to help Maine attract and retain EMS workers?

Maine is facing an EMS shortage a decade in the making, and now the service is asking the state for help. This week, the Maine Board of Emergency Services sent out two resolutions it recently approved, one stating that EMS was in a staffing crisis and the other supporting proposed legislation to recognize EMS as an essential service in Maine counties. In short: the service is hurting, and it needs help.

What do you think Maine should do in order to ease the staffing shortage for EMS personnel? Is there anything they can do at the town, county or state level? Tell us your ideas and what you think in the poll and the comments below.
