Charles “Charlie” W. Mills

AUGUSTA – Charles “Charlie” W. Mills, 91, of Augusta, passed away Dec. 6, 2021, at Maine General Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care at Gray Birch Drive after an extended illness.He was born in Moscow, Maine on Aug. 16, 1930, the son of Richard Mills and Mae (Noyes) Mills.Charlie was a graduate of Cony High School, Augusta. After leaving the National Guard, Charlie opened a local market on Bangor Street growing into the community staple as Mr. Market which he owned and operated for over 24 years in Augusta and Winthrop. A long-time member of the Augusta Country Club, he enjoyed playing golf, and the occasional poker game. Spending time at his home on 3 Mile Pond with his family was always a priority for him. He enjoyed travel of any kind, especially his trips to Aruba with 19 of his closest friends. He had a never-ending sense of humor and was a great storyteller for all ages. He married his high school sweetheart, Constance (Lajoie) Mills in 1951. Theirs was a love that stood the test of time, as he remained devoted and cared for her until her passing in 2006. Surviving are two sons: Gary Mills and his wife Kimberly of Augusta; Scott Mills also of Augusta; two daughters: Susan Mills and her husband Rick Bonnett of Bowdoin, and Karen Tracy and her husband Dave of Jefferson; and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with a large extended family of nieces and nephews. Visitation and services will be private and limited to family only. A spring burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester, followed by a celebration of his life, all are welcome at a date to be decided.
