With all of the renovations that are occurring on Main Street in Waterville, I am wondering if any of those involved with this major event have given consideration to community members who are disabled.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, a federal law, businesses are required to provide access and accommodations for all disabled customers. The ADA applies to almost all businesses that are open to the public, regardless of size. The parking places for disabled people that were on Main Street are no more and most of the businesses require the use of stairs for access from the back parking lot.
With all of the money that has been spent on this project, it seems as though some consideration should have been given to the installation of ramps to make the back entrances accessible.
