Dolores Ann Cyr

FARMINGTON – On Dec. 16, 2021, at the age of 75 years, Dolores Ann Cyr left behind the confusion and pain of Alzheimer’s disease to enter into eternal peace. Dolores, known to many as Dol, was born on June 26, 1946, at Sister’s Hospital in Waterville, Maine, the second of three children to Harvey Labonté and Jeanne (Roy) Labonté. She lived a portion of her childhood in Winslow but she resided for most of her life in Skowhegan. She attended St. John’s Catholic School in Winslow and Skowhegan Junior and Senior High School. She was raised a French Canadian Catholic, seldom speaking English until she attended public school in Skowhegan. On August 13, 1966, she married Donald Cyr at Notre Dame de Lourdes church in Skowhegan, ME. She was an active communicant at Notre Dame de Lourdes until she became incapacitated by Alzheimer’s. The last few years of her life, requiring specialized care, she resided in Farmington; first at Woodlands Memory Care and later at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center.As a young adult Dolores worked at Medwed Shoe Shop and Norrwock Shoe Company. Once she had children to care for, she devoted her complete attention to that most important task. For several years, once her children were older and independent, she worked with her husband for Brownies Janitorial Service, cleaning the DHHS and Job Service building. She married her one true love and remained a loving and faithful spouse for more than 55 years. Dolores was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and other young children special to her called her Mémère. She derived immense satisfaction in caring for her family and friends. She was a talented seamstress, cake decorator, floral arranger and an amateur hair stylist. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, especially making items for babies. Later in life she dabbled in quilting. She could beautifully craft anything. Dolores was a caring, loving and generous person. She derived immense satisfaction in helping others. In testament to her tenacity, she survived COVID-19 in February 2020.Dolores is survived by her husband, Donald of Farmington, daughters Tina Cyr of Skowhegan, Barbara Cyr of Orrington, Theresa Carlucci of Eustis, Fla., and son Mark Cyr and wife Hyunju (Kim) Cyr of Chambersburg, Pa. Grandchildren include Kristen de Bary and husband JD of Edgewood, Iowa, Megan Cyr and companion Larry Stratton of Madison, James Smith and companion Jasmine Brown of Jacksonville, N.C., Christopher Cyr of Jackman, Hannah Cyr and Isabella Cyr of Chambersburg, Pa., and godchild and special niece Anna Locke of Skowhegan. She is also survived by her brother John Labonté, Sr. and wife Angie of Belgrade, brother-in-law Keldon Locke Sr. and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.Dolores was predeceased by her parents, her sister Patricia Locke, a grandson Daniel Smith and a nephew John Labonté, Jr.The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Androscoggin Hospice and the staff at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center. Funeral services will be Dec. 28, 2021, at 1 p.m., at Christ the King Parish, Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, Skowhegan.
