KINGFIELD — A water tanker slid into a ditch and flipped Tuesday morning, smashing a utility pole beside Route 27, Officer Michael Yoder of the Carrabassett Police Department said.

Robert Smart, 69, of Oxford was headed south when he lost control of the tanker truck. Snow and slush on the road were the cause, Yoder said. The truck, owned by Brown Dog Carriers & Logistics of Biddeford, slid into a ditch, splintering a utility pole into three pieces, he said.

Smart was not injured but the tanker was wrecked.

Carrabassett Valley police and Central Maine Power cleared the area and repaired the damaged power lines, respectively. The wreck was cleared around 2 p.m., Yoder said.
