NEWPORT – David Arthur St. Pierre, 73, died Jan. 3, 2022, at his residence. He was born May 14, 1948, in Waterville, a son of Alphonse and Alice (Noel) St. Pierre. He graduated from Waterville High School, class of 1967 and enlisted in the Army in July 1967 through August 1970. He served in the Medical Corps as an operating room technician serving with the 18th Surgical Hospital (MUST Unit) in Vietnam from June 1968 to June 1969. He served out his enlistment in Arlington, Va., as NCOIC, the non-commissioned officer in charge of the surgical clinic at the Andrew Rader Clinic. Returning to Waterville he worked in the emergency and operating rooms at Thayer Hospital. In 1979, he attended the Physician’s Assistant program at Albany Medical College/Hudson Valley Community College graduating in September 1981. His first job as a PA-C was at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. In 1984 he was hired by John Baker, M.D., at Newport Family Practice and the Corinna Health Center. He often regarded these to be the best years of his working life loving all the work with patients, making house calls, etc. He was presented the Rural PA-C of the Year award by the Downeast Association of Physician’s Assistants (DEAPA). He moved on to go back to emergency medicine at EMMC, however, he felt emergency medicine had progressed further than he anticipated and left. He went back to his first love, family practice with Howard Margolskee, M.D., in Pittsfield. Significant medical issues led to his early retirement. He and wife Sandy built a forever home in Newport and until his death enjoyed driving her crazy by constantly finding home improvement projects. In his early days he enjoyed hunting (but could never survive on what he bagged), fishing (Sandy was always better.) Most of all he loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping with them and all that went with camping: smores, campfires, mostly untrue stories, and teaching them to drive in the backwoods of Jackman. He is survived by Sandy, his beautiful, loving and caring soulmate whom he married on May 9, 1998 (even in death I remember the date); a sister Yvette and husband Ken Munroe of Southbridge, Mass.; five children, Lisa of Sydney, Matthew and wife Amy of Carmel, Joshua and wife Angela of Melissa, Texas, Candace and husband Gene of Etna, Stephanie and husband Derek of Newport; nine grandchildren, Robert, Delsin, Noah, Carly, Aiden, Cameron, Gabe, Reegan and Kieren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Paula. A celebration of life will be held on July 2, at home. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
