William H. Tozier

HALLOWELL – William H. Tozier, 94, of Hallowell, Maine, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, at the Hillside Terrace in Hallowell with his family by his side.He was born in Unity, Maine, on Aug. 26, 1927, the son of Lloyd and Alberta (Thompson) Tozier. William attended Unity High School for three years and one year of boarding school in Waterville at Coburn Classical Institute where he graduated as salutatorian in 1944. He was an Alumni of Bentley College and the University of Maine at Orono.He was drafted in the Army Signal Corp. in 1954, trained at the Radio Repair School at Fort Gordon in Georgia and was assigned as a specialist in the Army radio repair shop in Kaiserslautern, Germany from 1954 to 1955.He was retired from Central Maine Power Co. in Augusta where he was an accountant for 38 years.He was a member of the American Legion Post 2 in Augusta, The Bethlehem Masonic Lodge in Augusta and a longtime member of the Kennebec Performing Arts Company Chorus.William married Carolyn Ward of Augusta on Sept. 26, 1953, at the Green Street United Methodist Church.He enjoyed traveling with Carolyn and friends, music, reading, history, genealogy, picnics and gatherings at the family camps on Unity Pond. He liked running, cycling and skiing, especially enjoyed running for fitness and participated in many local road races and long-distance events.He was predeceased by his wife, of 66 years, Carolyn Tozier; his parents, two brothers, Lloyd (infant) and John Tozier; two sisters, Charlotte (Frank) Foster and Carolyn (Manning) Atherton, niece Emma Murphy.He is survived by his daughter Susan Tozier of Augusta, two sons, Peter (Kathy) of Augusta and William (Kelly) of Jefferson, his grandchildren, Amy (James) Willigar, Nicholas Tozier, Tobey (Mallory) Tozier, great grandchildren, Lily and Anderson Willigar, a sister-in-law, Gladys Tozier, several nieces, nephews and cousins.A private family graveside service with full military honors will be held in the Spring beside his wife at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, in Augusta.
