James R. Violette Jr.

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. – James R. Violette Jr., 69, of Surfside Beach, S.C., died peacefully at his home on Jan. 4, 2022. Born to James R. Violette and Janice L. Kelly on July 27, 1952 in Ft. Bragg, N.C., Jim graduated from Messalonskee High School in 1970 and KMVTI.

He was employed by the paper industry as a technician for many years, retiring in 2012. Following his retirement, Jim and his wife Janice enjoyed traveling to warmer climates which led to their recent move to South Carolina. Jim was a self-taught musician who served as a guitarist and keyboard player in several local bands. His love and talent for music were shared with his children and grandchildren; Jim took great pride in teaching his son, Jim and grandson, Andrew to play guitar and drums. As an avid golfer, he spent countless hours on the golf course as a member of the Waterville Country Club. Jim was a lifelong fan of the Patriots and Red Sox and enjoyed several trips to Fenway Park.

Jim was predeceased by his father, James R. Violette Sr., beloved stepfather, Donald F. Kelly; nephew, Joseph W. Violette II, and niece, Jerica L. Hersom. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Janice M. Violette (Chase); mother, Janice Kelly of Augusta; sister Janeen Violette, brother, Joseph Violette; his daughter, Margot Cowing (Roy) of Edina, Minn., son James R. Violette III of Augusta; his grandchildren Emily (Cowing) Sanders and husband Oden, Hunter Cowing, Quinn Cowing, Andrew Violette, and Taylor Peters-Violette; niece, Elizabeth Violette and nephew, Jared Hersom; and his loyal labs, Rocky and Rosie.

A celebration of life will be held this summer.
