John Carroll Young

PITTSTON – John Carroll Young of Pittston, passed away Jan. 12, 2022 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, after a short illness.

John was the son of Reginald and Virginia (McGovern) Young.

He lived in Windham and moved to Westbrook at a young age attending Westbrook schools and graduated from Westbrook High School, class of 1963. John played basketball and football for Westbrook High School.

He loved to fish, hunt and was an avid bowler, bowling in several greater Portland leagues and later in the Augusta area. He enjoyed golf and several years played at Cobbossee Colony Golf Club in Monmouth.

John worked for Humpty Dumpty Potato Chip Company for 25 years retiring in 1988.

He is a member of the Gardiner Eagles and was always ready for a cribbage game.

He camped at the Birches Camp Lakeside Campground for several years making many friends and liked a good game of horseshoes and cribbage on Wednesday nights.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by his son, Todd Young; and his sister, Joan Laughlin.

Survivors include his longtime friend, Pat Marshall; his daughter, Lisa Davis; grandchildren Kyle Hillock and Troy Davis; son, John C. Young II (Jennifer); grandchildren Jackson, Ellyana and Kylie Young; brother, Bruce Young, brother-in-law, David Laughlin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no service. A celebration of life will be held on June 11 at the Wassamki Spring Campground in Westbrook.
