Where’s the Queen (self-portrait) oil painting by Dennis Wilkins. Submitted photo

DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts is set to showcase a solo show of the paintings of Bailey Island artist Dennis Wilkins from Thursday, June 30, through Wednesday, July 20, at 36 Elm Street Plaza. A meet the artist event is set. for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 2. Wilkins will be in the gallery to introduce his work and light refreshments will be provided.

Appropriately titled, “Mostly People … for a Change,” this River Room show highlights Wilkins’ deep interest in the human face. His oil paintings display a penetrating and personal reflection on many aspects of humanity, according to a news release from the gallery.

Wilkins states, “After early involvement with watercolor, ink, and acrylics, I have settled upon the challenges of oil paints in appreciation of their visual richness. For subject matter I’m primarily attracted to individual inhabitants of my world: a human portrait, a single tree, and isolated building. Within this context I search for that magic touch of a true artist, a poetic expression.”

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, visit River Arts’ website riverartsme.org or call the gallery 207-563-6868.
