PORTLAND — The determination process for the 2022 Lila Grace Amirault Scholarships has begun, with any Catholic students attending a Catholic high school in Maine eligible to submit an application.

To view an application and scholarship requirements, visit portlanddiocese.org.

The deadline to submit applications is Friday, Feb. 18.

The scholarship fund was established by Patrick Amirault through the Catholic Foundation of Maine in 2013. Amirault wanted to honor the memory of his wife, Lila, and show his gratitude for the care and education he received at a Catholic school in Malden, Massachusetts, where he grew up as one of nine children in a poor family, according to a news release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.

Although Amirault is now also deceased, the scholarships continue to benefit Maine Catholic high school seniors.

The foundation provides opportunities for people to create or contribute to charitable funds that enhance the work of the church in Maine. Those who would like to learn more about how to create a lasting legacy like the one left by Amirault can contact Elizabeth Badger, executive director of CFM, at 207-321-7820 or elizabeth.badger@portlanddiocese.org.
