Timothy W. Russell

AUGUSTA – Timothy W. Russell, 73, died unexpectedly on Jan. 30, 2022, while clearing snow from his driveway. He was born in Brookline, Mass. in January 1949, the son of Robert F. Russell and Mary (Belayne) Russell.

Tim graduated from Cony High School, Class of 1966, and from the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Tim was always learning. He became a CNA and attended classes toward an RN degree.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for several years by the State of Maine at Riverview Psychiatric Center. He had also worked at Motivational Services, DHHS in Portland, Sears in South Portland and Albuquerque, and Maine’s Department of Transportation.

Tim was a member of St. Michael Parish.

Tim liked a good or bad joke and wrote some of each. He liked to quote that lazy people are more efficient. He took flying lessons, sporadically working toward his pilot’s license. He studied astronomy, followed the flight path of the International Space Station, eclipses, and the position of planets. He liked statistics, enjoyed reading, gardening, puzzles, bowling and computer activities. He was a frequent blood donor and was proud of the many pins he received acknowledging the accomplishment. At Christmas, he liked to make packages difficult to open, but was also ready with a jack knife to cut through the yards of duct tape sealing the boxes.

Tim was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Cough) Russell, his father, his wife’s parents Eddie and Emily Cough, aunts, uncles, in-laws and more.

Tim is survived by his mother of Augusta; his sister, Sandra and Richard Stuart of High Point, N.C.; his wife’s siblings and their spouses, Stephen (Cheryl) Cough of Washington, Teresa Rizzo of Maryland, Paul Cough (Ingrid) of North Carolina, Rosalind (Brian) Jellison of Maine, and Anne Cough of Maine; his many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tim’s family appreciates the efforts of alert neighbors and Augusta’s 911 responders to help him.

There are no planned visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Gardiner in the spring.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME. Condolences, stories and photos may be shared at http://www.plummerfh.com.
