Conrad Wight

AUGUSTA – Conrad Wight, 88, passed away peacefully on Jan. 31, 2022, surrounded by his children. He was born Dec. 27, 1933, a son of Otis and Mildred Wight.

He graduated valedictorian of his class at Penobscot Valley High School in Penobscot, in a class of seven students.

Conrad was a veteran of the United States Navy. Enlisting in 1953, he served at the end of the Korean War on the battleship USS Missouri and ended his service on LST (Landing Ship Transports) ships and was honorably discharged in 1957. During his service, he earned the U.S. Navy Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Ribbon.

After his service, Conrad graduated from Husson College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was a long-time member and employee of the Augusta Elks Lodge where he was employed as a bartender, or as he like to call it a “Social Chemist”.

Conrad’s dry humor with his endless quick witted one liners kept his children and grandchildren laughing continuously. He enjoyed the outdoors, ice fishing, hunting, camping with his family, mowing his lawn, snow-blowing his driveway, feeding the squirrels and solving crossword puzzles. Most of all, he loved spending time with friends and family, including his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Conrad was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Stuart Wight and Frederick Wight.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Wight of Augusta; children Ed Wight of Auburn, Lanette Goddard and her husband Dan of Lewiston, Christina Savage and her husband Chris of Moultonborough, N.H., Angela Wight and her husband Dean of Livermore Falls, and Steve Wight and his wife Kelly of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and siblings Myrna Boutin of Blue Hill, Brenda Breeding of Ellsworth, and Kendrick Wight of Penobscot.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta, ME 04330.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330. Condolences, stories, or photos may be shared by visiting http://www.plummerfh.com
