Geraldine “Gerry”Small Dubord

AUGUSTA – Geraldine “Gerry” Small Dubord of Augusta, died Feb. 12, 2022 at Maine Veterans Home. She was born to Maurice G. and Queenie (Folsom) Small in Bath, Maine on October 24, 1930. At only four years old, a young Geraldine went on the flight of a lifetime. Fresh off of becoming the first woman to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean, Amelia Earhart came to Maine to lend her fame to the women’s movement and help promote aviation interest in young girls and women. Geraldine’s father won a local contest that enabled Geraldine and her mother to take a plane ride with Amelia. She graduated from Gardiner High School in 1949. Gerry worked at Gardiner General Hospital as a nurses aide during high school and later as a lab technician, just prior to entering the Army in 1950.She married Rosaire Dubord on January 6, 1951 while stationed at Camp Gordon, Georgia, and he was attending National Guard school at Atlanta General Depot.Gerry was discharged from the military on Dec. 7, 1951 with the rank of PFC and returned to Augusta. She attended Gates Business School until Mr. Dubord went on active duty in 1953.Once the military duty was over, they returned to Augusta, with Mr. Dubord working at Camp Keyes with the National Guard and Mrs. Dubord working for Central Maine Power Co. She later worked for the State Dept. of Economic Development, Dept. of Health & Welfare, Division of Sanitary Engineers, and in the Personnel Office at AMHI. She went to work in the Legislative Branch in 1966, in the Finance Office and later in the Legislative Directors Office, retiring in 1987.Her hobbies included cake decorating, ceramics and was an avid bowler at Jerry Brook Lanes. Gerry also loved to travel with fond memories of trips to Europe and a three month Alaskan motor home tour taken with her husband and two other couples. She also enjoyed spending time at their camp on Webber Pond, hunting and spending time outdoors. Mrs. Dubord was predeceased by her daughter, Susan Plante in 1983, a son, Peter Dubord in 2013 and Peter’s partner Rachel Rioux in 2005; her father in 1987, her mother in 2000, her husband in 2009, and her half-sisters, June McKinnon and Thelma Kenney.She is survived by a daughter, Carol Fenderson and her husband Mitch of Florida, her son Kenneth and his fiancée Laurel Wert of Windsor; two grandchildren Craig Beaulieu and his wife Kelley and their son Carson; and Heather Bachelder and her husband A.J. and their son David; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. Following cremation, a committal service will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt.
