GORHAM — Jackie Luckhardt scored 14 points, including the 1,000th of her career, and fourth-seeded Southern Maine outscored fifth-seeded Keene State 28-14 over the middle quarters for a 55-45 win in a Little East Conference women’s basketball quarterfinal on Tuesday night.

Leading 31-26 with 5:03 left in the third quarter, the Huskies (9-15) held the Owls to just two points the rest of the quarter. Maria Degifico made a layup and a 3-pointer, Luckhardt added a field goal and Tamrah Gould nailed a 3 to give USM a 41-28 lead.

The Huskies extended their lead to 47-29 on a pair of free throws by Amy Fleming two minutes into the fourth quarter, and the Owls got as close as eight twice in the quarter before being forced to foul.

Degifico and Franny Ramsdell each finished with eight points for Southern Maine. Hailey Derosia had 15 points for Keene (10-14).

U. OF NEW ENGLAND 51, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 45: The second-seeded Nor’easters (18-8) put together a late rally and held on to beat the seventh-seeded Golden Bears (11-16) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinal in Biddeford.

With 4:37 remaining and the score tied at 40, the Nor’easters scored nine straight points on a 3-pointer by Abby Cavallaro, a field goal by Jordyn Franzen, a 3 by Juliana Tracey and a free throw by Cavallaro for a 49-40 lead with 2:12 left.

The Golden Bears got to within four, 49-45, with under a minute left and Cavallaro iced it with a pair of free throws in the final seconds.

Cavallaro finished with 19 points, followed by Franze with 12 and Kaylee Beyor with nine.

Julia Quinn had 13 points and Grace Fisher added 12 for Western New England.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S 89, JOHNSON & WALES 81: Nicholas Curtis scored 26 points, Griffin Foley finished with 20 points and the Monks (9-17) kept their season alive with a victory over the Wildcats (10-14) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference first-round game in Providence, Rhode Island.

Curtis had 18 points, including five 3-pointers, and Foley chipped in 12 in the first half when the Monks built a 54-35 lead.

Drew Shea, who was 6 for 6 from the field, including two 3-pointers, had 14 points and Julian Llopiz had 11 points for the Monks, who were 12 of 25 (48 percent) from behind the arc.

Aireus Raspberry had 23 points for the Wildcats.

UMASS DARTMOUTH 81, SOUTHERN MAINE 75: Jake Ashworth scored 19 points and Marcus Azor had 18 as the top-seeded Corsairs (22-3) handled the No. 8 Huskies (10-16) in a Little East quarterfinal at Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Trevor Ward, Cody Hawes and Chance Dixon scored 14 points apiece for USM. Hawes also had 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Jason Lombard chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 73, CENTRAL MAINE CC 66: Ian Regan scored 24 points as the top-seeded Seawolves (17-5, 13-1) handled the fourth-seeded Mustangs (13-12, 7-7) in a Yankee Small College Conference tournament semifinal in South Portland.

Regan gave his team the lead for good, 18-15, on one of his four 3-pointers with 8:33 left in the half, and the Seawolves outscored the Mustangs 25-14 the rest of the way for 43-29 lead at the break.

The Seawolves held a comfortable lead throughout the second half though the Mustangs made a late charge, pulling to within five, 66-71 on a 3-pointer by Jaeden Henderson with 20 seconds left.

DeSean Cromwell had 12 points, and Zachary Mickle and Anderson Kavutse each added nine for SMCC. Jordan Dudgeon had 23 points for the Mustangs.

(9) TEXAS TECH 66, OKLAHOMA 42: Davion Warren scored 16 points, Bryson Williams had 13 and Texas Tech (22-6, 11-4 Big 12) won its 20th consecutive home game while avenging its only loss this month by beating Oklahoma (14-14, 4-11).

The Red Raiders have won their last four games and 7 of 8. The only loss in that span was 70-55 at Oklahoma on Feb. 9.

(17) TENNESSEE 80, MISSOURI 61: Kennedy Chandler scored 23 points to lead visiting Tennessee (20-7, 11-4 Southeastern Conference) over Missouri (10-18, 4-11).

Chandler, a freshman guard averaging 13.2 points, eclipsed that average with 14 points in the first half for the Volunteers. The 6-foot, 172-pound Chandler was far too quick for the Tigers’ big, bulky backcourt players. He made 9 of 12 shots and added eight rebounds and six assists without a turnover.

Javon Pickett led Missouri with 16 points.

(18) ARKANSAS 82, FLORIDA 74: JD Notae scored 22 points, including a huge 3-pointer with a little more than minute remaining, and Arkansas (22-6, 11-4 Southeastern Conference) beat Florida for its first win in Gainesville since 1995.

The Razorbacks won for the 12th time in 13 games and ended a 14-game skid in the O’Connell Center.

(25) IOWA 86, MICHIGAN STATE 60: Keegan Murray scored 28 points as Iowa (19-8, 9-7 Big Ten) topped visiting Michigan State (18-9, 9-7).

Kris Murray, Keegan’s twin brother, and Jordan Bohannon each had 11 as the Hawkeyes continued their February run. Iowa lost three of its last four games to end January, but is 5-1 since.
