MONTREAL — Samuel Montembeault made 32 saves for his first NHL shutout, Nick Suzuki scored his second goal of the game on a penalty shot and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 on Wednesday night for their fourth straight victory.

Cole Caufield had a goal and an assist, and Jake Evans added an empty-netter.

Craig Anderson made 25 saves for Buffalo. The Sabres have lost four in a row.

LIGHTNING 5, OILERS 3: Corey Perry, who played 19 games for the Portland Pirates in 2005-06, became the 103rd NHL player to reach 400 goals as Tampa Bay beat visiting Edmonton.

Perry had a nifty deflection of Mikhail Sergachev’s shot from the left circle during a power play that put Tampa Bay up 4-1 with 4:36 remaining in the second period.

Pat Maroon, Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov also scored for the Lightning, who were coming off a seven-day break. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 shots.

Connor McDavid had two goals for Edmonton.

STARS 3, JETS 2: Tyler Seguin scored 54 seconds into overtime on a play that required a review, and Dallas won at home.

Seguin’s shot in transition was stopped by Connor Hellebuyck, and the goalie reached for the puck in midair as Seguin sent it back toward the goal. The original call was that Josh Morrissey had kept the puck out the net with his stick, but a video review after play showed the puck across the goal line.

The winning play came moments after Jake Oettinger made a pad save one-on-one against Morrissey at the other end. Dallas captain Jamie Benn secured the puck and went the other way with Seguin, who also had an assist.

Dallas beat Winnipeg for the sixth consecutive time at home in the fourth straight game between the Central Division clubs to go to overtime or a shootout, including all three this season.

AVALANCHE 5, RED WINGS 2: Gabriel Landeskog opened the scoring 1:12 in and capped it with an empty-netter for his 25th goal of the season, helping NHL-leading Colorado win at Detroit.

Tyson Jost, Nazem Kadri and Valeri Nichushkin also scored and Pavel Francouz stopped 31 shots. Colorado beat Detroit for the eighth consecutive time.

Filip Zadina and Robby Fabbri scored for the Red Wings. Thomas Greiss made 26 saves.

NOTES

BLACKHAWKS: Forward Jujhar Khaira will miss the rest of the season after he had surgery on his lower back.

Khaira had the operation on Tuesday, and team physician Michael Terry said he is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks. The last game of the regular season for the Blackhawks (18-26-8) is scheduled for April 29.

MAPLE LEAFS: Prospect Rodion Amirov has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said in a statement that the 20-year-old Russian winger is undergoing treatment in Germany and will not return for the remainder of the season. Agent Dan Milstein said Amirov is skating three times a week and working out daily while with his family in Germany having treatment.

“Rodion is in good spirits and is determined to return back to professional hockey,” Milstein said.

Amirov started the season with Salavat Ufa of the Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League and was injured 10 games in. Dubas said Amirov developed unrelated symptoms over the course of his recovery that required “ongoing extensive investigations.”

The Maple Leafs selected Amirov with the 15th pick of the 2020 NHL draft.

“Our medical staff has been involved throughout the process alongside Ufa’s and we are in direct contact with the facility on an ongoing basis to monitor his treatment and care,” Dubas said. “Rodion has the complete support of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization and we will continue to ensure he receives the best care possible throughout this process.”
