ALBANY, N.Y. — Paula Gallego and Anne Simon each scored 13 points to lead the University of Maine to its 10th straight women’s basketball win, 49-45 over the University of Albany on Wednesday night.

With the win, Maine clinched the No. 1 seed for the America East tournament.

Maeve Carroll had seven points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block for Maine (16-10, 13-3 AE).

Albany’s Lucia Cortes led all scorers with 18 points, adding eight rebounds. Helene Haegerstrand had 12 points and five rebounds for the Great Danes (19-9, 12-5).

ST. JOSEPH’S 88, RIVIER 70: The Monks (20-4) scored 34 points in the second quarter as they beat the Raiders (14-11) in a GNAC tournament quarterfinal in Standish.

Cassandra Stapelfeld led St. Joseph’s with 24 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jayne Howe had 17 points and five assists. Grace Philippon and Kaleigh Walsh each had 15 points, with Philippon adding 10 rebounds.

Rivier’s Lyric Grumblatt scored a game-high 27 points. Hannah Muchemore put up 13 points and six rebounds.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 79, UM-AUGUSTA 57: Hannah Richards had 17 points and seven rebounds as the Seawolves (20-3) topped the Moose (17-8) in a YSCC tournament semifinal in South Portland.

Kyla Greenleaf finished with 13 points for SMCC. Bailey Whitney had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Taznejia Valencia paced UMA with 12 points.

(5) BAYLOR 65, OKLAHOMA STATE 58: NaLyssa Smith had 19 points and 15 rebounds, and visiting Baylor (22-5, 12-3) beat Oklahoma State (8-16, 3-12).

Sarah Andrews scored 17 points and Queen Egbo added 13 points for the Bears, who won their seventh straight.

(7) UCONN 69, MARQUETTE 38: Evina Westbrook came off the bench to score 17 points, leading UConn (20-5, 14-1) over visiting Marquette (18-9, 11-7), securing the Big East’s regular-season title.

Azzi Fudd added 13 points for UConn, which has won nine straight conference championships, dating back to its seven years in the American Athletic Conference.

(9) IOWA STATE 85, KANSAS 59: Ashley Joens scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds and led visiting Iowa State (23-4, 12-3 Big 12) over Kansas (19-6, 10-5).

(11) TEXAS 62, KANSAS STATE 51: Aliyah Matharu scored 16 points and visiting Texas (20-6, 10-6 Big 12 Conference) overcame cold shooting to defeat Kansas State (18-9, 8-7).

Lauren Ebo scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Longhorns, who have won five straight. Joanne Allen-Taylor added 10 points.

Coach Vic Schaefer, in his second season at Texas after a long career at Mississippi State, reached 20 wins for the ninth-straight season.

Texas shot 36.5% but had a 41-29 rebounding advantage.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

ALBANY 72, MAINE 68: Matt Cerruti scored 18 points, making 4 of 5 3-pointers as the Great Danes (13-15, 9-7 AE) beat the Black Bears (6-21, 3-13) at Orono.

Jamel Horton chipped in 14 points for Albany. Trey Hutcheson had 12 points and Justin Neely finished with 10 points.

Maine was led by Byron Ireland with 13 points. Maks Klanjscek had 12 points and Peter Filipovity had 11 points and four rebounds.

(7) DUKE 65, VIRGINIA 61: A.J. Griffin hit back-to-back 3-pointers and scored on a drive after making just one basket in the first 36 minutes and visiting Duke (24-4, 14-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat Virginia (17-11, 11-7).

Griffin’s first 3 gave the Blue Devils a 55-51 lead with 3:39 to play. His next one made it 58-53 with 2:41 left, and his drive made it 60-55 with just over two minutes to play. Trevor Keels’ basket with 56 seconds left and and a free throw were just enough to finish it.

(14) HOUSTON 81, TULANE 67: Kyler Edwards scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half, and Houston (23-4, 12-2 AAC) defeated Tulane (12-12, 9-6) at New Orleans.

Taze Moore punctuated his 18-point performance with a two-handed alley-oop dunk with just more than a minute remaining and Fabian White Jr. had 12 points and three blocked shots for the Cougars, who shot 62% in the second half, including 6 of 13 from 3-point range.

(20) TEXAS 75, TCU 66: Andrew Jones scored 21 points and host Texas (20-8, 9-6 Big 12) rallied from 10 points down in the second half to pull out a victory over TCU (17-9, 6-8).

Marcus Carr scored 19 and Timmy Allen had 17 for Texas, which reached 20 wins in the regular season for the first time in six years, and ensured the Longhorns will finish no worse than .500 in the Big 12 under first-year coach Chris Beard.

U. OF NEW ENGLAND 2, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 0: Delanie Corcoran made 20 saves as the Nor’easters (10-12-2, 10-7-2 CCC) shut out the Golden Bears (7-15-4, 5-12-2) in a CCC quarterfinal in Biddeford.

Abbi Charvat and Carolyn Curley scored for UNE.

Rieley Jessie-Gerelli racked up 33 saves for Western New England.

MEN’S LACROSSE

BABSON 12, BATES 7: The Beavers (2-0) took a six-goal lead after the first period and pulled away to beat the Bobcats (0-1) at Babson Park, Massachusetts.

Matt Stucchi led Babson with four goals. Chi Chi Price and Lee Sipes each scored twice. Matt Mowac made 13 saves in net.

Bates had seven scorers. Garrett Fitzsimmons and Spencer Wood combined for 14 saves.

U. OF NEW ENGLAND 13, ST JOSEPH’S 4: Sam McGregor scored four goals to power the Nor’easters (1-1) past the Monks (0-1) in Biddeford.

Ben Gowell, Kyle Kennedy, Ryan Hazard and Jordan White each scored two goals for UNE. Matt Deyette turned away 13 shots.

Xavier Michaud, Will LeBlanc, Will Levesque and Nathan Varle all had one goal for St. Joseph’s. Ryan Boutiette and Brannon Gilbert made seven saves apiece.
