ROCKPORT — Two photographers, Susan Burnstine and Justyne Davis, are scheduled to be the next presenters of the Alumni Lecture Series, a weekly online series offered by Maine Media Workshops + College, featuring conversations on topics in photography, filmmaking, book arts and design, and writing.

Burnstine will discuss her creative process to create idiosyncratic and personal visual landscapes during an online lecture, “A Conversation about Creative Intension,” planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 8.

She has found a way to portray her dream-like visions entirely in-camera, rather than with post-processing digital manipulations, according to a program news release. She utilizes 21 handmade film cameras and lenses, made out of plastic, vintage camera parts, and random household objects with single-element lenses molded from plastic and rubber. The results are frequently unpredictable and technically challenging — learning to overcome their extensive optical limitations required Burnstine to rely on instinct and intuition.

Burnstine is an award-winning professional fine art and commercial photographer represented in galleries across the globe and widely published throughout the world. She frequently curates and serves on juries for exhibitions and has written for several photography magazines, including a monthly column for Black & White Photography (UK).

Davis, a lighting designer and union gaffer, will provide an understanding of some of the physics of lighting in an online lecture, “Physics of Lighting: Understanding the Principles of Reflection,” at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10.

His gaffer credits include work on “The Last O.G.,” “The Central Park Five,” “Ode to Joy,” and many more films and episodic series. He also served as best boy electric and electrician on “BlacKkKlansman,” “The Informer,” “Quantico,” and more. His lighting designer credits include “Nick Offerman: American Ham,” “Super Bowl LII,” as well as “The Food Network’s BBQ Blitz and Brunch @ Bobby’s.”

Since 2017, Davis has guest lectured and taught at NYU Tisch Graduate School.
