BOSTON — Maddie Mills scored with 8:11 to play in the second period to break a scoreless tie and Maureen Murphy added a power-play goal 4:05 later as top-seeded Northeastern eliminated fifth-seeded UMaine with a 3-1 win Wednesday night in a women’s Hockey East semifinal.

Ida Kuoppala scored for Maine (15-18-1) on a power play midway through the third period, but Murphy answered 3:30 later to seal the contest for Northeastern (29-4-2).

Aerin Frankel made 12 saves for the Terriers, and Jorden Mattison stopped 38 shots for the Black Bears.

MEN’S LACROSSE

SOUTHERN MAINE 11, HUSSON 9: Aiden Mitchell scored three of his four goals in the fourth quarter to power the Huskies (1-0) as they closed with seven unanswered goals and rallied past the Eagles (0-2) at Bangor.

Tucker Mussinow had a hat trick for Southern Maine, Nick James added two goals and an assist and Jacob Lang and Aman Zusner also scored.

Sean Lyne had two goals and an assist to lead eight scorers for Husson.

EMERSON 14, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 13: The Lions (4-0) took the lead for good on Hunter Gervais’ goal with 59 seconds to play in the first half, capping a 5-0 second quarter and then held off a late charge to top the Nor’easters (2-2) at Boston.

Nicholas Fulgione led Emerson with six goals and an assist, and Gervais added four goals.

Ryan Hazard had four goals for UNE as it outscored Emerson 6-1 down the stretch.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

ST. JOSEPH’S 22, THOMAS 2: Lydia Dexter had five goals and seven assists as the Monks (2-0) dumped the Terriers (0-1) at Standish.

Shauna Clark provided three goals and an assist for St. Joseph’s, Bridget Collins, Megan Mourmouras, Cailyn Wesley, Mackenzie Siebert and Brianna Paul each scored twice.

Anna Chadwick and Alia Chasse scored for Thomas.

BATES 18, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Trish Balser, Dana Swarz and Kate Loughlin had hat tricks as the Bobcats (1-1) topped the Huskies (1-1) at Lewiston.

Emma Austin and Annie Lowenstein each had a pair of goals as Bates received scoring from 10 players.

Rachel Shanks scored for Southern Maine.

TEXAS A&M 87, (25) ALABAMA 71: Quenton Jackson scored 28 points and Tyrece Radford had 22 to lead visiting Texas A&M (19-11, 8-9 Southeastern Conference) over Alabama (19-11, 9-8)  for its third straight win.

Jackson had 15 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half to lead the Aggies. The Crimson Tide were outscored 50-31 after taking a three-point lead into halftime in the team’s home finale.

MILWAUKEE: Milwaukee fired Coach Pat Baldwin one day after a first-round loss in the Horizon League Tournament concluded his fifth straight losing season.

The Panthers went 57-92 overall and 34-59 in league play during Baldwin’s five-year tenure.

UMASS: UMass has fired Coach Matt McCall, effective at the end of the season.

McCall is 58-81 over five seasons in Amherst. He will coach the Minutemen (12-16, 5-11 Atlantic 10) through the conference tournament.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

(9) TEXAS 70, KANSAS 60: Joanne Allen-Taylor scored 20 points, Lauren Ebo had 12 and visiting Texas (22-6, 12-5 Big 12) outlasted Kansas (19-8, 10-7) for its seventh straight win.

After trailing 27-25 at halftime, the Longhorns scored 14 of the first 16 points in the third quarter and never lost the lead again.

(19) OKLAHOMA 79, OKLAHOMA STATE 76: Taylor Robertson scored 10 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter as host Oklahoma (23-6, 12-5 Big 12) rallied to beat Oklahoma State (8-18, 3-14).

The win clinched a third-seed into the Big 12 Conference tournament for Oklahoma.

Lexy Keys made a 3-pointer that gave Oklahoma State a 69-66 lead 5:12 remaining. Kennady Tucker and Robertson each made a 3 as the Sooners outscored the Cowgirls 13-7 in the final minutes.
